Just talked to a friend who works for a publishing company that I mentioned on today's teleseminar. She told me about 10 people being laid off at the company, and how the magazine I used to work for is folding. "It's all part of our transition form print to pixels," she said.
Print to pixels. The trend of the future. YOUR future, and mine.
It's a rough transition, to be sure, for many. But I'm still optimistic and maintain that this is the BEST time to be an author, if you are willing to embra…

Every author needs three things : credibility, visibility, and faster growth for your audience of readers.
A Ning Ring or joint blog is one of the lowest cost, most effective ways for an author to establish and promote your Internet brand and in the process you also build credibility and visibility for you and your book ( even before the book has been published ).
In a Ning Ring you create a small community of 5 to 10 authors who all want to write about a topic similar or related to yours, suc…

Someone asked an interesting question:
“What if I want to become an author but I don’t really like to write?”
Well, that got me to thinking about why we might not like to write, even though we feel we might have something important to say.
I think a lot has to do with whether or not we’re operating from within our own natural style.
Work from within the way you’re wired–in anything, not just writing–and it will automatically be more enjoyable.
Work against your preferences, and the task beco…

Best-selling author Robert Allen is writing a new book. And he has a way of not only getting his audience notified, but also involved in the actual writing of the book.
For years, Bob has been doing mentoring calls every Wednesday morning called "
Breakfast with Bob." During these calls, he focuses on "inner wealth" issues. I appreciate his spiritual approach.
This summer, he has been letting his list…

A successful blog comes from attracting readers who find your ideas interesting and would like to check-in with you a few times a month to hear what you have to say. The goal of this informal traffic is to point your more serious readers to your longer articles and eventually your products and services.
The good news is that since most blog readers are looking for something that is short, interesting, and informative you don't need to be writing brilliant posts ( especially in the…

Strategic Internet Marketing is about building a solid foundation and identity on the internet by writing frequent articles and cross posting them on blogs, podcasts, article marketing, and PR marketing sites. Most of these articles and posts will be popular for a short time and then fade into the background. They will continue to give you a steady stream of leads but no one article will be read by most of your audience.
However, there are three “articles” that will be read by almost everyone i…

This is a bold experiment in generating blog traffic on the internet, a Ning Ring.
A community of six authors who have come together to write on related topics in one blog site. I call this a Ning Ring or a credibility cluster.
The goal is to build more traffic, faster, and at lower cost for the authors.
For the readers our goal is to give you more information faster and better than we could do writing individually.
To get an idea of how this might work listen in on the strategy call between B…

Two Boston-based research groups study word-of-mouth impact on brand marketing. They suggest that the value of a single WOM conversation about a brand is about 50 cents. One study found that on average a person talked about a particular brand to just over 16 people. 83% of the 16 people talked to about two others. So if you are speaking at an event and you can get 100 people within your audience to talk about your “brand” you end up with $2,128 worth of marketing. The challenge for us, as author…

Converting browsers into buyers is as much of an art as it is a science. Fully understanding psychological triggers of website browsers is paramount to achieving success. Conversion Marketing explores what makes people tick and how to influence a buying decision in the absence of any face to face contact. Think of Conversion Marketing as equivilant to hiring a silent salesperson that works your business 24 hours a day.

Why do mainstream publishing companies maintain such a tight strangle hold on what is printed and promoted as literary fiction and non-fiction in our country?
Opportunities for traditional get smaller and smaller. Agents and publishers are not likely to pick up a new unproven author. They certainly do not want to risk the few publishing dollars they have available on an unknown entity. How can an author stand out, get published, and successfully launch their book under these conditions?
